On May 8 to May 10, the fourth new era China youth economic forum was held in SEPKU. The forum included keynote speech, four sub-forums, four young economist exchange salon and results show. Academic representatives from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and other schools participated in the forum.

 

The New Era Youth Economic Forum was established in 2012, the 100^thAnniversary of SEPKU. It has grown into the most influential undergraduate academic forum in China. The forum discussed the "New Normal · Breakthrough: Gradual upgrade–Industrial Transformation in Maintaining Stability", the "New Normal · Explore: Deepening and Inclusive- Hierarchical Layout of Financial Markets", the “New Normal · Frontiers: Reform and Innovation – Ice Break and Change the Local Finance and Tax" and the "New Normal · Challenge: Coordination and Sustainability–the Beauty of China”. The forum strives to discuss the comprehensive and deep reflection of "new normal" on China`s current and future development.

 

On May 8, the opening ceremony was held at the Lecture Hall of SEPKU. Professor Ye Jingyi, Deputy Secretary of CCP of PKU, Professor Sun Qixiang, Dean of SEPKU, Ruan Cao, Peking University Youth League Secretary, and Professor He Xiaofeng, Chairman of SEPKU Advisory Board, attended the opening ceremony. Professor Ye Jingyi delivered a speech on behalf of the school. She gave warm congratulations to the opening of the forum, and welcomed academic representatives from home and abroad. She fully affirmed the forum’s academically point and student-centered position. She encourages the representatives to think and communicate professionally as a master, their youth and now think, of the future. She said what the young think and do will affect the well-being of the people of China and the world.

 

Professor Sun Qixiang gave the welcoming remarks for the forum. Subsequently, she analyzed the current situation of China`s economy, noting that China`s economy is facing the double of superposition. The first is the "big turns to strong" period, with China becoming a power from a big country, we need to deal with more new external relations and issues. The second is the "middle income trap" period, in which China only can rely on the "green" development to cross. At the same time, we must also be alert to three risks, the first is the risk of mind-set, the second is the risk of "two strategy game", the third is the risk of "distorting reform". Professor Sun stressed that we live in a world full of challenges and risks, but there are also more opportunities to realize the great ambition. So she hoped the students to have a sense of mission and responsibility, to embrace this era with passion and wisdom, to meet the challenges, and to contribute to China`s economic development and social progress.

 

After the opening ceremony, Professor He Xiaofeng gave a keynote speech on "Talk capital". First, he shared a story during his student life about a debate on the labor theory of value with pundits. He encouraged the young students to strive to be pioneers and assume responsibility bravely. He then explained in detail the investment philosophy of green economy under the new normal in five aspects.

 

On the morning of May 9, the four sub-forums held simultaneously at SEPKU. The sub-forums are themed as "New Normal · Breakthrough: Gradual upgrade –Industrial Transformation in Maintaining Stability", "New Normal · Explore: Deepening and Inclusive - Hierarchical Layout of Financial Markets", “New Normal · Frontiers: Reform and Innovation – Ice Break and Change the Local Finance and Tax" and the "New Normal · Challenge: Coordination and Sustainability–the Beauty of China” respectively. The academic representatives discussed and exchanged views with teachers. In the afternoon, four exchange salons held simultaneously. 

Associate professor Hu Tao, associate professor Chen Kai, associate professor Xu Yunxiao and assistant professor Shi Ju shared their experience and tips in study and research, and gave academic guidance to the results show.

 

On May 10, professor Xiao Chen made a speech entitled "One Road, One Belt: innovation and pioneering, accumulating elites". Then the sub-forums academic representatives reported corresponding academic achievements. Professor Li Xinyu, associate professor Qin Xuezheng, associate professor Song Fangxiu gave evaluations as judges.

 

On the morning of May 10, the forum concluded successfully.
